Hello everyone,

Last week I started making the loft for the king quails. Via Marktplaats I found a 2nd-hand outdoor run for rabbits and thought I could do something with it.
The outdoor run is made of wood, so it would be better to place it on a foundation. For this I found 2nd-hand retaining bands, which I unsuspectingly went to pick up on my own.

Gosh, those things are so heavy! But.... With my girl power and will to make this happen, I succeeded! The basis is there.

But now I have a question. It is recommended to attach thick wooden beams to the foundation before the frame can be placed. However... I was able to chisel the foundation into pieces, so I think the foundation will break if I drill holes in it to attach a beam to it. I also wonder if a wooden plank is also sufficient, since not a whole aviary is placed on it, but a frame of 50cm high.

Does anyone have suggestions for the next step?

Thanks in advance! (In the meantime I am going to rest for a week)

P.S. Sorry for the mess on the pictures

I don't know much about construction, but I am curious about your climate. King quail are tropical and don't do well in cold, so if your climate gets below freezing, you will need to make sure they have heat.

Hi Nabiki,

In the post where I introduced myself, I mentioned that the quails go inside when neccesary. I am planning to do this when it will be under 5 degrees Celcius.

So... no worries! :)

Also... the climate is getting warmer the last years; we almost have no winters anymore.

Done! I used 'Mounting kit?' (Sorry, this is what Google translate tells me; hope it is the correct word.)

Here a picture of the housing. Now I am going to work on the inside. :)
