Hello everyone I am asking for help because I don’t know anything about quails, however 3 days ago we had a little quail turning up on our doorstep.
We decided to take it in since it would have ended up killed but cats of foxes and my husband made a little cage for it.
It’s very friendly, we’ve let it out and about in our garden and it seems content. It Loves to come and sit by us and it seems like it even “cries” when we move away.
Because of this we assumed it’s still a juvenile.
We felt very sad for it since it’s in its own so we asked around for people selling quails to find it a companion. We looked also how to determine the sex because I’ve read about males having problems with each others but none of us have been able to do it because as I said we don’t know how to handle it and also it a so small!
Anyways we found a lady in a local farm who was selling quail eggs, I contacted her and she sold us 2 Coturnix female quails (6 months old).
We took them home yesterday and at the moment they are in a cage opposite the little Quail’s cage so they can see each other.
This morning I was searching online for more info and I came across the “button quail“ breed. That’s our little quail! I’ve looked so much around at different breeds of quails but didn’t come across it before and now we have one button and 2 coturnix quail. My husband was going to build a big cage for the 3 of them to be together but my doubt now is whether we can have them living together without hurting each other?the little one is literally 1/3 of the females!
I will add a picture of the little one, I really hope someone can help please!
Thank you in advance!
Ps: we still don’t know how the little one ended up on our doorstep since where we live nobody has got any quails!

Have you checked with your neighbours to see if anyone has lost their pet? Button quail are native to southeast Asia, so if you found one, it's probably lost.

Coturnix and button quail shouldn't live together. The coturnix will probably kill the little guy. (It looks like a male to me)

That's definitely a male. He looks about 6 weeks old (the age they mature).
Here's one of my quails at 6 weeks old (left). He's a different mutation, but you can see both mine and yours have got their bib but still have yellow down around the eyes. They also both have a slightly pinker beak compared to dark beak on the quail on the right (6 months old).

It's probably not a good idea to keep the three quails together because of the size difference.

He is a button quail and definately a male. I do not recomend keeping him with a coturnix quail. Male quail can live fine on there own as long as u give him lots of care and attention

Still has a lil yellow around the eyes at the time of the pic so not full adult prob feathered out teens and male and dont put them together! Lol and it is so a inside pet cuz it needs warmer temps then coturnix and they are monogamous so it only needs 1 female
