so one of my babies that I kept has this wired leg... he's about a week and hops and bounds around just as much as the others, he's just a bit slow. he's a week younger then the one's he's with... but the real problem is once he hatched one of his legs refused to move, it's twisted in the opposite direction and from the knee down it seems frozen... i really thought it was a defect in development and that he wouldn't make it. he eats and drinks and travles from one end to the other of his tank over anything, but i wanted to know how this will affect him, and if he'll live?

he won't go in with my normal quail and certinally will not be kept alone (i do have another extra small button who seems to have no gender.... lol healthy, and very docile) they will be put together once he grows up.

Sorry, I really don't know what to say. It is either a hatching problem or a genetic problem, and I don't know how to fix that. Maybe someone else will come along that has more experience with things like that. My only leg problems have been spraddle, and this doesn't sound like it.

Sweet little thing if he gets around and you have a cage for him. I would let him live a happy little life. Thou I would not breed him just in case it is genetic. I think your plans for him are great. I really think there is nothing you can do with the leg. Best of luck .

We have 1 now that has what sounds like the same problem. On closer examination after it was older it seems like the hip is dislocated. Like yours it gets around ok. Of course it doesn't run as fast as it's siblings but can fly and hops around. Eats and drinks fine and does not appear in pain. We're going to see how it makes out but not breed that one if it is male and try to pair it off with another female in a separate cage when older.

well he's sick... and i can see some of that hip dislocation you are talking about... if i stretch that leg he gets pretty upset with me, and he's my quiet one. so im not sure if its hurting him or not...
