If they are fairy eggs, wouldn't they be yolkless? Would cracking one to see the contents give hints? My girls haven't laid yet so this just a guess.

Usually, but not always. The one I got was but they can occasionally be otherwise typical eggs, just small

Not all fairy eggs, but most are.
Here's one I got 5 years ago.
Size of a quarter withe a dime sized yolk.
