My male flushed and got his head stuck in the cage wires this afternoon. Fortunately the hen threw a downright racket and I found him hanging there within a few minutes and freed him. He looked dead, but he stood up after he dropped. He was very tired and slept for a few hours but is now out walking, eating and drinking again. I replaced the top with window screen.

Oh man! So glad you caught it!

So good you got to him in time, I guess thanks to your female. I had a chicken recently who saved the life of another chicken by alerting me to come over and get the hen out of the situation she somehow got herself into.

I have three chicks now 3 days old which were hatched by finches and now in a brooder. The finch brooded them but within a day they were too big to fit under her. They're all tame but especially this yellow one whom I can pet and hold.

Annie is now brooding at least seven more eggs, her third attempt. She goes broody every time she lays, but has not incubate long enough yet to hatch. Will the third time be the charm? We'll see. Sfter laying all her eggs, the nest she built around them this time is much bigger, about 5 inches high and 8 inches wide, and I cannot see her in the box behind the bedding mound, so she has a LOT of privacy this time.

She laid eleven, which seemed too many to cover, so the finches have four more under them as well now. They began sitting a few days before Annie, so theirs should hatch around the 22nd, and Annie's - if she does this right - around Christmas.

I've read through as many websites adorned with garish 2009 website design as I can possibly find, but I am still left with some confusion on button/Chinese painted/king quail colours (or whatever it is you want to call these cute buggers.) Any input?

Bucky—red breasted, or just wild type? What is the difference between the two? I can't see one. Is this the color people refer to when they say "Darth Vader"? (Yes, I have changed his water today. For some reason, this pair soils their water terribly in minutes. Like, really, dudes. Just go around it. You have plenty of room.)

Simmons—red breasted? She's pretty bald right now, the male in with her (Carter) is kind of a jerk. He's going to lose lady privileges if he can't be nice.

Carter—cinnamon blue face? I haven't found an exact match for him anywhere. Is he just a mix?

Shuri—wild type. She's setting on six eggs right now and based off what they look like I suspect they will hatch in the next few days. :fl :caf

:pop following!

First male is red breasted. Wild type has much more white on the face and red only on the rump. I think darth vader is a combo mutation that includes red breast, but this is just red breast.

The female is red breasted.

Second male indeed looks like cinnamon blue face. Though I have never seen one before.
