My hen brooded 8 days this time and abandoned when I put my hand in the cage to add a handful of clean shavings. I thought shed settle back but never did and roosted out of the nest tonight. So disappointing.

I put 4 in the finch nest again. The two I put there from before did not hatch. I cracked them a few days ago and they were infertile.

I cracked the other 4 eggs that wouldn't fit under the finches after twelve hours. Four half developed dead chicks. But that means the ones I did save at least a chance of hatching. Have to get an incubator. They're just so expensive.

I have a Janoel 12 incubator, not a top of the range incubator but it does the job and is a reasonable price.

One of my hens is broody AGAIN. She went broody once and hatched three chicks, all of them she rejected. A couple of days later she went broody again and hatched one chick. That chick was recently removed as she's an adult now and now our hen, a couple of days later, is broody for the third time! Hoping I'll get some better hatch rates this time. Though to make up for it we've gotten some good mutations; golden pearl, cinnamon pearl and white winged pied; all females.

I have a passion for red breasted, especially Darth Vaders. I had two normal boys, so set a goal to produce Darth Vaders in cinnamon and silver. I produced a cinnamon mid-summer. I've been watching this silver in my brooder. He has a few more weeks before he's in full color, so I'm not going to say it now, but....
Here's a picture of him, a normal, and a cinnamon

Cool, I love the Darth Vaders too. I have one, his name is Darth Vader (so original).

I have a Star Wars obsession, so this mutation just seemed like part of the general madness lol I have dogs named Yoda, Leia, Padme, and Jabba. I usually don't name the buttons, just one whose nasty attitude towards people named him. I swear he came out of the egg pecking any hand that got near him.

SAME! Darth Vader's mate's name is Padme (of course), I called my pheasant siblings Luke and Leia. I have named a lot of my quails after star wars!
