I was using Purina Game bird crumbles because it was the only high protien food I could find around my area but I have to buy a 50lb bag of it and I only have 4 birds and it goes bad before they can eat it all. Is there a better food I can order for them preferably in a smaller bag but I will buy a big bag if I have to as long as it is a better food. My main concern is I want the healthiest food for my buttons. Also if you know a site where I can order the food from that would be helpful also, thanks.

Hi, I keep and breed my button quail, and have been using the following food mix for nearly 5 years with great results.

Chick started food (I try to get the un medicated one, but eating the other kind won't do them harm). I can buy this in small bags from my feed store, in the weight I want.
Finch seed mix,
Crushed oyster shell,
Small cage bird grit.

I also offer a cuttlebone that they like to peck at for entertainment, and as treats I offer:

A millet spray,
Mealworms,
Green leafy vegetables,
Scrambled eggs.

They also catch and eat lots of insects as I keep them outside and ants, small beetles and other bugs don't stand a chance if they wander through the quails cage!

I use Game bird feed that comes in 50 pound bag but I break it down into about 10 pound bags and store it in the freezer. It keeps very well. Be careful with medicated feed as it can cause low sperm count in male buttons. For the health of the birds I would feed game bird high protein, any brand, and finch seed and treat with greens/fruit/insects daily. just my opinion.

Thanks, that's what I have been doing I just don't have room to store the food in the freezer so that's why I was trying to find smaller bags.
