Button quail going crazy at night

Unfortunately the problem has been back since I moved them to a bigger cage :(

They now live in a cage 70cm/40cm/50cm and even though I have put many plants and several hiding places for them, they still sometimes jump at night. The only solution I came up with (reading some other forum about parrots doing the same thing) is to leave them a small lamp on so that it's not completely dark. They seem to be doing fine then, so I don't think it's mites, probably just them getting spooked. Is there a way to solve it?

Also, why don't they use more often the hiding places I made for them... ? Whenever I have to open the cage, to give them more food of water, they start running around and trying to escape. In the previous cage they would run away to the one place they felt safe and just wait for me to finish, but now they seem to be scared whenever I'm around. It's been around 10 days since I got the bigger cage, so I would think they have gut used to it by now..
I wish I could make them a spot where they would feel safe and could run away to whenever they feel scared, but is it possible?? They have a "house" where they sometimes pop in, but don't stay in any longer. They also sleep outside..
I placed some fake plants inside but this doesn't seem to help either.

Any advice how to make them feel safe?
