Button quail mating call? ***Paging button experts!!***

Is -growl...growl- PHUEW! PHUEW!! PHUEW...WHET WOO! a mating call because all my males are doing it frequently.

And the females are all puffed out and preening.

They're all also flapping they're wings and stretching their legs

Excited? YES!!!

Not sure about the growling part, but both males and females do the 'pew pew pew' or 'heeheehee' thing. The males 'crow' sounds like a perculator coffee maker, or like DArth Vader's breathing, so that could be the growling noise you heard.

LOL- I am hearing that constantly now. I had a single hen and she always did the hee-hee-hee noise. I then got two boys. One went with her and the other was seperate and doing the whet-whooooo when she would do the hee-hee-hee. I put them (all 3) togther and all was quiet till the hen got to know them then the boys started fighting over her. Luckily I got another hen so both boys had a hen to be with. I just added to my button "flock" and have over 50 and today was hearing the odd hee-hee or growling type noise the boys make.
