Hello everyone.
I have my second batch of quail eggs in the incubator. It's day 18 and no hatches yet. I did the float test and all eggs wiggled. Iam confused why they havnt hatched yet. Any suggestions would really help.
Thanks!

Give them more time hatching is not an exact science and they can be early or late. Have your temps been ok during the incubation? If your temps have have been a little low this can sometimes cause a slightly delayed hatch. What breed of quail are they?

Under normal circumstances, they should hatch on day 16, latest day 18. If they still haven't hatched something has gone wrong. Temp probably too low.

Sadly none hatched. When I cracked the eggs, they were all fully formed and dead :( most had pipped internally. What do you guys think went wrong. I want to make sure I can fix the problem before incubating any more eggs. It was very sad seeing it :(

did you stop turning at day 13 and open the air vents? they may have suffocated or if the humidity was too high they can drown as well. sorry and do try again. practice makes perfect!

ps: if you float tested did you use very warm water and not leave them in too long or you might have chilled them or drown them in the shell. just an afterthought.

Be very sure you have the right temp...thermometers can be very deceiving. When I first started incubating eggs I had 3 thermometers that all gave a different temp! I bought a Brinsea Spot Check thermometer and it's right on the money. I also don't candle or float test buttons, I incubate at 99.5 at 55-60 humidity, on day 14 I bump the humidity up to 75 and make sure I have enough water to maintain the humidity til hatch so I don't have to open the bator.

The humidity had gotten close to 80. I couldn't lower it or open the air vents because then the temp was dropping sharply. Might that have been the issue? I ordered a new thermometer/hygrometer.
