Button quail pointers anyone?

okay thank yall! I have never raised buttons before, but my friend has them and she says they are super little. LOL the smallest chicks i have ever had were bantams. I will be sure to keep them in pairs and have cages ready!

I do not grind my buttons' feed, but I do make a wet mash of it. They waste it less that way since they can't scratch it around. But I've found that my feed has so many different sized pieces in it that if I just keep the buttons on a towel until they are about 3 weeks old they can then eat all the different sizes. Until then I just take any passed-over food outside for the yard birds, they don't mind if there are some poopies to scratch out of the way

another thing that wasnt really touched on is cleaning the cage, my buttons are on sawdust and you must keep up on maitnence or else the fecal matter will collect on there toes and it is not fun to get off i clean my cage once every three days also even if they dont NEED sand boxes they do bath and play in them and if you are planning on getting eggs be sure to add a calcuim supplement into the diet, it will take stress off of the females body and can triple her life span.

I use pelleted bedding mixed with pine shavings. It helps a bit with toe clumping but it's just a maintenance you have to do with them. It's not all too bad once they get used to you.

Calcium is a great pointer. Gamebird starter doesn't provide the right amount of calcium for hens. I add oyster shells from day one. Grind it down and add it to the feed.

Hey 'Gal!

I bought Cuttle Bones for awhile, my birds seemed to like them.

Hey, you know in Plainview, you can get a 5 lb. bag of Game bird crumbles at Gebo's, that ought to last you awhile. That won't last me long, but since you won't have alot ( yet ... ) then it should last you a few weeks, or a month depending.
