Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

You have to sort of pinch on either side of the vent and try to turn it inside out...

it's hard to do.

If you see/hear any of them "laughing" at you, those are likely males... whistle TWEEEE twee twee...

Out of nine I know that I have 3 roo's and 3 hens so far. The 3 white ones is the ones I can't figure out. I have heard the "laughing" but I can never catch the one doing it....

Hey I just thought of something, maybe I can get one of those pen lights and shine on the vent while I am trying to figure this out.......

You would have laughed watching me do it the first time, too... sounds like you're just going to have to wait. I knew it was a roo when I saw it, um, having it's way with a hen...

The others are easier because they get the bibs so early.

I'll try it again today. Maybe I will have better luck if I use some decent lighting.

Those poor babies are gonna run and hide when they see me coming again....

Well I have not tried it again, not yet anyway. I do have another question though. When can you put 3 wk olds in with 6 wk olds?

I had a white 7 week old that was being terribly picked on, so I moved it into a cage with two 3 week olds and they all get along very well. I think it really just depends on the birds.

The white 7 week old was in with 3 others from the same hatch. They pecked its ears so bad it was bleeding, so I separated it. I had two 3 week olds and didn't know where to put them, so I put the white 3 weeker in with the white 7 weeker, and the brown 3 weeker in with the 3 7 weekers (are you following this? LOL) Anyway, the 3 7 weekers poked the one eye out of the 3 weeker, so I moved it in with the two whites. It was a rough weekend...

Anyway, everyone is getting along fabulously. All you can do is try it and watch for problems.
