Buff Orpington, coachen, black aster orb or silkie. I really need quiet chickens!

For the quiet ones, based on my experience with my chickens and my friends' I'd recommend silkies, easter eggers, and cochins. Their australorp is super loud, as is their buff orp. However, it does very chicken to chicken!

I would recommend Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Red, Easter Eggers. They seem quite. Although not every chicken will be quite. One of them will be the alpha hen. Meaning that would be the most vocal one.

Pet quality?

Eggs and pets!

So you'll want birds that are docile but good layers and not things like Silkies or Cochins that are constantly going broody.

I haven't had much luck with chickens being lap pets, though my Brahmas are pretty laid-back. I have no experience with them myself, but I've heard that Buff Orpingtons are fairly docile.

My Australorps have all been fairly skittish about being handled. Likewise the Delawares. My Wyandottes are the calmest of the current bunch, but they don't enjoy petting, only tolerate it.

I thought Rhode Island Reds were loud!!

I had one, I would say mine is moderate. Loud but can be quite most of the time. I honestly thought her vocal isn’t bad. I remember I can hear her screams from her being bullied my older top alpha miniature hen. lol
