Buying an incubator tommorow

great. it seems like a good one but there nothing quite like the trusty homemade bator. however that type of bator sems to show that it will have some good hatch rate. Good luck !

I don't have one and have never used one, but there seems to be a lot of people that don't like them. Somewhere on BYC I read tips and tricks that someone posted about using one. I know one thing they mentioned was to put foam weather stripping between the 2 halves. They said that a lot of heat is lost there. I would search the forum for people's experiences before buying one. I don't think it would be my first choice.

But maybe you will have good luck with one, some people do. Also, I remember reading that the eggs next to the turner motor get very hot.

I've heard that the still air is hard to work with but its easy to install a fan... I know there are directions on how to do it on BYC somewhere.
Also it doesn't create a very tight seal and someone on here said that if you put heavy books on it, like a history text book, it tightens the seal better.
Best of luck, all I can say is I have a genesis 1588 w/turner and LOVE it.

Then again I might wait and research it a little more.

My incubator is upstairs where it is unheated and gets really cold on cold nights. I wrap a towel or blanket around it and the temp holds very steady!

I started with the LG still air. They are VERY hard to regulate the temps!!!!!! It did work good but took constant watching. The LG is very prone to temp spikes! I had mine set for 2 days and it staid mostly within temp range. 98.7-101.2 After I added the eggs, for no reason every couple days the temp would jump to 104.!!!!! But thankfully it would go back down soon! The water trays are not big enough! It is very hard to clean after haych!... Use the clear trays they make to keep it clean. I didn't and I am SORRY! I had to place as many water trays in the bottom as I couls squeeze in. I still had trouble getting the humidity up. I had to place 4 wadded up paper towels in the bator. just under the tiny vent holes in each corner. I had to use a syringe to add water through the vent holes! It is EXTREMELY hard to add water to this bator!!!!!!!!!!! Use a syringe with a tiny hose! DO NOT use the thermometers that are made by LG!!!!! I had 3, all3 were WRONG!!! I got a wireless hygro/thermometer for like $15. I placed it at egg level. wether on the turner or on the wire rack. The temps in the still air very, Drastically! on top of the eggs it was 103. at egg level it was 99.5. and in the bottom of the bator it was 86. Make sure you take the temp at egg level!!! And if using a turner . make sure to turn it on and run it while setting your temps! The turner puts off alot of heat! I now use a sportsman bator I got used for $200. I only use the LG for Lockdown! I HATE the LG and every thing they make! You really do get what you pay for!! Be very careful and very watchful! It does wor but you have to really watch it, so it wont cook your eggs. Hope this helps.

Do a search ono here and you will find thousands of opinnions about LG!!! Your choice! My opinion!

Good Luck and God Bless!
