Buying an incubator

Hi My name is Erin and I am new to this site. I want to incubate Emu eggs in about a year and am just looking for advice on the best incubator to hatch one or two Emu eggs. I would also like to use the same incubator for chicken eggs, if possible.
Thank you

Hello, and welcome to BYC! I have never hatched eggs so I can’t give you any recommendations on an incubator. But yes, you can use the same incubator for both chicken and emu eggs, but you can’t just plop the eggs in the incubator and wait. They need special requirements and I’m not smart enough to go into detail. If you need to know more visit the articles about hatching chicks, it’ll be more than enough information for a starter! Good luck and enjoy your stay!

Most people who hatch emus are doing it in big cabinet incubators :) However, I used a Nurture Right 360 this year for a couple eggs, and a Brinsea last year. I had to build a separate incubator for them to hatch in because there's not a lot of head room in those two models, but the same will hold true for basically any incubator that's not a cabinet.

Some people have also had luck using Hovabators and Incuviews for emus.
