buying chicks from a farm store.

How terrible ! Glad you got her back. I have 6 being shipped 4/7. It's my first attempt. I cannot wait. I have a feeling my flock will grow over time. I am a huge animal lover and gardener. If all goes well I hope to hatch eggs some day

I actually was out earlier and checking on my little man. He is finally trying to walk some, and Brownie was right there with him, like a mother hen making sure he is alright. My daughter took this photo of her you can see how small she is, the game is a wee bit bigger then her.

You can see she is still missing feathers, most of her tail is gone. I checked her sides. Everything is healing well. However she will remain bald under her wings. where the skin and feathers had been cut off, but she seems to be wanting to come out and to be with all the rest of our hens. I figure one more month and she should be able to take care of herself. However then little man will get lonely. I may end up giving them a few bantam pullets to keep them company.

Yeah the six minimum purchase is law in Illinois. When I was younger the minimum at the same retailer was a dozen chicks. I have a flock I am just starting and will be moving out to the yard in the next week or two and will be attending the city board meeting tonight to make sure of my legality before I brazenly put them in the yard. We have at least two families in my town that keep chickens.

If you own check your deed. Ours says that chickens are fine just no livestock.
