Buying chicks from TSC in January?

Yeah they are very nice birds I hand feed mine and they all chase me around and they even have a little tire swing in their coop. You can say they are spoiled beyond belief.

I put a swing in one of my pens and they never use it. And a tire full of dust bath they wont dust in... Thats my bratty blue lace red wynodettes though.

Why not give Ideal a call and see what they have hatched out? They are between you and Austin and could probably give you the fastest start.

I am attempting to cancel my order with TSC, they have contacted the hatchery and waiting to hear back. If they do cancel we will probably order from Ideal and just drive to them, they appear to only be an hour away. Thanks!

Got them today! They came early so while I was playing with them hubby chickproofed the tiny coop.

Where are you located? We have several local sources in central tx that I have used this winter. Have heard that TSC has healthy chicks.

I recently got Wyandottes from Georgetown Feed..very healthy. Also have gotten Delawares from Belton Feed. Think both get regular deliveries from Ideal, have about 6 varieties at a time, and are inexpensive ($3 to $4). Also tried a small farm around Temple, but cannot remember the name. There are several small hatcheries nearby. If you plan a trip to Ideal, just call to tell them what you want and when you can be there for pick up. They work with you. So easy, maybe a bit too easy, as I will certainly get more soon. It's almost spring chick time!

I hadn't heard of any issues with Easter Eggers. What have you heard? I currently have 3, but two are only 11 weeks old. My other (8 months) is one of my best layers, laying 4-5 large green eggs a week before the winter cold came along.

There is one hatchery with a disclaimer on their website stating that EEs have a high rate of scissor beak. It's worded in a way that suggests this is an inherent trait for EEs. I haven't bought from that hatchery and I've never had a chick with scissor beak. I've also not had an EE that laid any color egg other than blue or green and although they all use that CYA disclaimer, some hatcheries are better than others at trait selection.

Love those EE's! Most reliable almost daily layers of big, beautiful blue or green eggs. These are such pretty, friendly ladies. I have 3 new ones right now (7 weeks) and an Ameraucana to compare once they start laying. You will love 'em.
