I have bought chicks by ordering from a hatchery, yesterday I bought chicks from a local feed store. they said they were pullets and was $ 2.29 each now I am wondering if I bought roosters, have anyone eles bought chicks from a feed store and did they get pullets when they were suppose to be pullets. Is this price about what most places charge for pullets?

Feed stores usually buy from Hatcheries and order sexed pullets, problem being they are usually only 90% accurate. The majority should be pullets. I've bought chicks from the feed store and always got pullets, probably by pure luck. I think $2.29 is a good price, I've paid more. Good luck!

If your feed store ordered pullets then $2.29 is a good price, but remember when sexing these guys you don't always get it right so there will be a few males in the batch.

I realize that when sexing chicks some roosters will slip thro' but I wondered if maybe they all would be roosters. I bought 10 and am hoping for 5 pullets . They were advertised as Araucana pullets and I know they are Ameraucana I just hope that some are pullets.

I realize that hatchery chicks are called easter egger chickens because most people say they are "mutts' and not Ameraucana as true to the breed but I wanted some chicks that layed blue/green eggs and I have limited funds so I bought the feed store chicks.

My little Ma & Pa feed store uses a small hatchery in PA called Hoffman Hatchery. The pre-sexed chicks I got from them were pullets. Unfortunately my little feed store is going out of business.

They always ordered a big variety of chickens and other fowl. I also liked that fact that they were very knowledgeable about the chicks they were selling. I think I paid $3.00 each for them. Since TSC doesn't have the breeds of chicks I want I had to buy a bator and now will hatch my own.
