A must - a piece of old screen from a window so the little chicks don't get spradle legs. I put paper towel under the screen and bricks or something around the edges so the chicks don't get a boo-boo.

You are going to have SO MUCH FUN!

I'd go with pine pellets instead of shavings--much less dust!
Corid to have on hand in case of cocci.
A screen for the top of the container to keep chickies in and cat's etc. (if you have them) out.
And last but not least-----A camera, because we need pictures of fuzzy butts!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, Plan on a second set up because you'll probably find a few more breeds that you *have* to have before the first batch is ready to leave the brooder.

Have lots of fun!!!

You need the CHICKS!

LOL

Be sure to have an extra heat bulb also. Start them on Paper towel for at least a day possibly two until they get used to what is food and what is not. And it also helps with spradle legs See a picture and how to treat it here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=41693

I
think you got all you need then. Do you have a chicken first aid kit? That's always important. And watch for pasty butt the first two weeks

I have had several several batches of chicks and never had to use the screen...just paper towel.

Go up on Amazon and buy yourself a copy of "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" by Gail Damerow. It is probably the single best primer available, and will answer every one of your questions. Besides the equipment you need a good foundation of what to expect and what to do on a daily basis, so I strongly recommend that you buy the book first, and readi t cover to cover before you go shopping for anything else, chicks included.
