Buying wood chips??

You can get shredded hardwood mulch or pine bark mulch in bags from the big box stores, but anything that’s black, red or brown has probably been dyed, so avoid those. My favorite is pine bark mulch (pictured) and sometimes you can get small, medium or large nuggets. I prefer a combination with the large on the bottom and small on the top. Any landscape supply store should also offer mulch in bulk if you have a way to get it home.

Oh, and branch pieces... why?

If drainage is a concern you want larger pieces such as pieces of branches as that leaves bigger gaps for water to go through and also tend to sit up above any water to offer drier footing.

If you want large amounts you can check out getchipdrop.com and see if they offer service in your area, or call some local tree companies directly. I haven't tried it (I get my chips from my own trees) but it's generally a lot cheaper to have a tree service simply dump a truckload on your driveway.

Otherwise if you are buying bagged materials I'd just avoid dyed mulches (if it's not obviously labeled, avoid bagged products that are one uniform color) or all cedar.

That’s great! Thank you! I’m gonna look for some...

Just to help with different size pieces in the run. I saw in another post, you have a good mixture of stuff your using in the run,(pine needles, leaves, chips) bigger pieces will just enhance this. They don't have to be long, 6"- 8".
Okay, thank you! Well, we are so very wet here right now that I feel I need to add to the top.. raising it some... and thought the wood chips would help keep it dryer than anything else at the moment... plus all of my leaves and pine are soaked as well so I can’t use them.. because when I first started use the neighbors wood chips that’s all I used and it worked so well.. so that’s why I needed to find some wood chips I could purchase... thank you again!

I really don't know, but it probably don't have any dyes. I wouldn't take my word for it though. You can go to tlchorsebedding.com and see for yourself. It says on the package 100% pine shavings
