7. Basic (non-breeding) plumage
A Superb Fairywren. I have the pleasure of seeing these little guys in all their glorious breeding plumage in my backyard rn, some if my favorite visitors 🥹

Also random but on the topic of reference vs no reference. This is a "no reference" drawing for me. I did have a reference in front of me for feather pattern/colours but anatomy and pose is freehand. It's one of the few bird species I'm semi good at freehand.
My art's not that amazing when I don't use references so like 90% of any art I do will have used a reference of some kind.

8. Nocturnal Migrant
A sloppy attempt at a White Throated Nightjar.

Juvenile: Day 9

I wanted to do chick in the awkward stage, but didn't have any great pictures on my phone of my own birds, so I searched for one online and found an EE for reference. I was thinking of going without a reference, but chicks have always been hard for me for whatever reason, so I decided it best to look for one after attempting to draw a beak.

(And appeartly, the lighting in my 4Runner casts a blue hue? I wasn't home when I did this one.)

Day 9: juvenile! I chose a bald eagle. My family and I love to watch the bald eagle youtube stream from Friends of Big Bear Valley; it was exciting to see the eagles Jackie and Shadow raise two chicks, Sunny and Gizmo! So I had to do the bald eagle for my kids!
