Just sharing my little drawing hack - I sketch almost everything on a separate piece of paper (in my sketchbook) in pencil. That way if I don't like my sketch I can try again and again without erasing so much on the final piece. Once I like my sketch I draw over the lines I like in pen so I can then trace my final outline onto the watercolor or mixed media paper using a light box.

Here's what a spread in my sketchbook looks like.

UGH, this is taking forever. I'm still on #1 and I have realized just how hard woodpeckers are to draw accurately, especially the legs/feet. It's all about the angle, I think.

The tail has been giving me some trouble too.
Getting there... the feet still haven't been drawn yet. 😂 I need to do it.
