My 3 little Royal Palms.

@chicapee very eye-catching turkeys. I've seen full grown Royal Palms but not any the age of yours. Very cool!

Yes I can hold her, although she prefers to think that she owns me and will try to defend my head from my hand. She lived in my room for half a year - bad idea, she was VERY dusty - so she still wants to get back inside sometimes, once when a hawk chased her I found her trying to get into the post office at the top of the hill. She's my favorite pigeon, but slightly crazy.
Oh my word. She is so smart. I am amazed. Not implying pigeons are dumb but I know nothing about them. I am glad she outflew that hawk. I have finches and they could never ever leave and come back like Nutty does. And it's cute she wants to come back in. What's the dust thing with her about? I've never heard of that before about a bird.

Pigeons produce a dust that keeps their feathers in good condition because they don't have an oil gland like some other birds. She is usually pretty smart although right now she's paired up with another female pigeon and doesn't seem to understand why their eggs never hatch!

I had no idea. Now I get it. Interesting how nature installs different mechanisisms in different birds to ensure their survival and adaptability.

That is so cute. She probably sits on them forever and keeps checking to see if one has cracked. I think her personality is wonderful.

I saw on a kids nature show, Wild Krats, that pigeons make a substance like breast milk that they feed through their mouths to their young and that are the only birds that do so... is that true?
