hee hee, it's a hat.

it's really not turning out how it is supposed to... so far... I am hoping it improves. It's my first attempt at a hat.

Ok I am really leaving now, before the professor police get on me.

Skand is right. If you just keep going around in that first part of your granny square you get one big circle. I actually still don't know how to do granny squares... heh...I can't get past the first circle... A couple of things get confusing with decreasing and increasing stitches in order to give a circle the shape it needs. One day it *might* fit around my head.

I actually found working in the round much happier for me than squares. But you definitely need a stitch marker unless you want to just keep going and going until you are too dizzy to look at the thing any more.

I have found this thread to have the best and most helpful group of hooker sisters I ever did see. If you have a question, never feel uncomfortable asking. We are still trying to teach Skand the "hooker" lingo.

I am still trying to learn a lot of it too. I am by no means an expert, I just happen to be online and catching all the posts right now...

Lol!
Hey my first attempt at crochet was making a granny square, that would be the ONLY reason I know how to make them.
I found my stitch marker effective when I made the scarves for the girls Christmas. It really woulda helped with the prayer shawls.
It works when you do granny's too. You always have to keep up with your start row, that way you know where your end will be.
With any pattern, like the prayer shawls and the girls scarves, it was a row of sc (single crochet) and three rows of dc (double crochet). The marker kept up with each of my rows of sc. I kept using the same color, got REALLY confusing. Did I do a row already? Hmm guess not, I'll do one, then look back five rows later, got three rows of sc and one row dc. lol It kept track for me....so long as I moved it of course. Which I will admit, I didn't always do...hehehe

Skand, for what you were doing it would be helpful. I always wondered how ppl kept up with what they were doing when they made things with changing patterns. was wondering how to do that..another thing on my to learn later list.

I found that if I keep my projects down to a 5 day accomplishment, it was easier! That, and I get to learn more things quicker. I stay with one pattern until I feel that I can come back at anytime, pick up where I left off without having to remember, lookup, or recite, then I can move on to a different pattern. Throw in a few challenges next time. Differnt size maybe, different way..like when I turned prayer shawls to scarves..hehe
Now I'm trying out something new, a poncho-kinda shape. lol It started out as doing a scarf, just differently, and viola! I learn something new. hehehe
My accidental experiments turn into bronze! hehe I'm not a Queen, it doesn't come out gold. --yet! ok, time to hide over.....there..^^

Sign me up. I know how to knit and latch-hook etc. But I really never quite
got how to crochet. My grandma tryed to teach, but I was a lost cause. Lets just say I get frustrated really easy at stuff like that LOL

I had an Aunt that tried to teach me to knit I finally learned to do it a bit but I can crochet soo much easier. As you have probily read in the last few posts, any pattern or shape, it needs not be purrfect. We love to see newbies bloom into full time crochet hookers

Awesome to have you here!!! We love new folks, this group acclimates well to new folks, you will feel like you've been here for months in just a short while. I told someone yesterday that several of us belong to crochetville and craftster and other crochet forums but speaking personally, they are too "impersonal" to chat and belong to..great for pattern searches but not a community like this one...so welcome!! Adding you to the list!!!
