Pics SE! you need to take pics of the chicken spider! Btw, did I say how much I LOVE my stitch marker?

I soooo needed that...the paperclip I was using kept snagging my yarn...

New, your Starter Kit needs to include (this is from a newbie myself here - these gals made me cave in July) Um...You need a G hook and an H hook and your favorite colored yarn and a scarf or dishcloth pattern that uses Single Crochet stitches. This site: http://www.crochetcabana.com/ and Beginners Guide - 30 Easy-to-Crochet Pattern Stiches by Leisure Arts Little Books (I got it at Michaels hanging in the yarn section - it's one of those little pamplety things) It really helped with pictures and stuff that it has in it. And then you need a mentor....You can choose any one of us or all of us.

ETA: make sure your hooks are aluminum unless it is really good plastic like Lion's brand. Other plastic ones I have found the hook tips break if you have a tight stitch style.

Thank you everyone for the great welcome.

Just as I was going to type another sentence I heard my 16 month son giggle excitedly and I looked expecting the worst and of course he had gotten a ball of my yarn. 20 mins. later I am back from untangling the mess. I really have to watch him. He is like a little cat with yarn.

EastTNchick, I am in west TN about an hour and a half north of Memphis, about 10 miles from the great Mississippi river.

To give anyone wondering an idea of my experience in crocheting, I have only made 3 large granny square blankets (the first being one really really big red square) and almost 10 baby blankets. Up until my newest project all my baby blankets have been one solid piece where you make rows back and forth. I know next to none of the crocheting language and never learned how to read a pattern.
Oh, and I am left handed but learned to crochet right handed.

What is a stitch maker anyone? I remember someone talking about that earlier.

It's like a little hook or in the one from SE (scrambled egg) it's a necklace clasp with a very cute chicken bead on some wire to make it easy to keep track of.

I will try to get ya a pic. Lion brand has some that are like little half circle things. I was using a paper clip until I got the one from SE.

Oh SE I forgot to respond to what you said, I would love to join the swap in the spring but I need to know a few more details first befor i commit. I can only make the granny square and already have a few left over from the 2nd blanket I made and could possibly use those and just make more the same size. They are varigated (can't spell) purple, green,white, and navy with a pale purple trim, they measure around 9 and a half inches. I know you wanted the size to be the same but the color could change right? Not sure if I have enough of that color to make enough. Also my blocks or squares are good enough for me and I like how the blanket looks finished but I don't know if I am good enough that anyone would want what I make.
I have seen others talk about gage and things like that and I have no idea what they are talking about.
Im not sure I am good enough to join the swap yet but want to.

If I can learn how to upload pics to this site I can show everyone what my blankets look like and yall can decide if im ready to join.

Stitch markers are for working in circles usually. (I can't stay away I am playing Professor know it all tonight.

You all still love me, right?)

I never needed one for my single crochet stitches, but boy do I need one for circles (or working in the round, in hooker lingo.)
gauge is how tight your stitches are, I think... not sure, I don't pay attention to that. haha... You don't have to be an expert to join the swap.

I joined and my squares were like trapazoids. If you need info on the spring swap details on on the first page of this thread and in the first post.

PM me or anyone else for more specifics.

cmcgoun Iron on patches? To things you crochet? That's cool! Tell us more even if it isn't crochet!

thanks for showing me the picture too btw. that blanket? looks like the braided rugs i saw in a book i bought on how to learn to do that..think i will stick with crocheting.
