What's the temperature where you are???

Tuesday 13th of January 9.20a.m. Mostly cloudy and grey / warm, sunny breaks. 18.5 / 22.2kph NE, Hg 55%, 24C / 71.8F. Headed for 26C / 79F. Partly cloudy.

Moon is 24%

Gosh how heartbreaking. Wildfires seem to be more and more prevalent. I am no stranger to them 😢

37°F while feeling like 28°F with 73% humidity and a 30°F dew point with SSW winds at 17mph.

Cloudy skies this morning will become partly cloudy this afternoon with a high of 49°F. WSW winds at 15-25mph with higher gusts being possible.

Had a pretty good night at work until the last 1 and a half of my shift. Found out that the overnight team I work on is being moved to an early morning-early afternoon stocking team with a pay cut plus we are losing one of our managers to a department supervisor position. This going to be utter hell, it will go so poorly in general but especially because our attempts at stocking the shelves will be interrupted by customers all the time.

Truthfully I wouldn't be surprised if this causes me to have my first depressive episode of the year as I have been relying on this job to help me save enough money to try to move out of my parents house and away from my abusive father while I try to find some job that pays more than what I'm making now(hard thing to do, haven't had much luck at all) but now I don’t think I will be able to ever move out or get chickens due to this pay cut.

Having outside animals sure has its challenges, yeah. There have been a few times I've considered simply not having any...

Basically, I try to choose hardy breeds, have as few winter animals as possible, keep them all together in large insulated houses and runs covered both for snow and wind, and let them adapt and get used to the weather. I shut them in at a certain temp, and depending on how long the cold will last, heat their coops. What about you?

Temp today: 20F and stormy.

I am blessed with a good solid barn, buts still when it’s -20 or -30 outside it’s cold in the barn also.

I have IR heater panels that they can warm up under and the Hen House where they sleep at night is fully insulated. There are a couple of IR panels in there also, it will stay above freezing in there even on the coldest nights.

I have 3 that are in my heated feedroom/office in the barn: my frizzle silkie rooster, an OEGB bantam hen and one of my layers who was extremely ill a month ago so she is in there until her weight returns to normal.

Recently I bought a portable diesel heater (ones you would use camping) which I tried out in the barn and loved - it puts out a good amount of heat so it will create a nice warming spot for the chooks once I finish installing it better. Warm up and then off again to dig in the horse stalls - yummy - horse poop!

:sick Hahaha

They get outside when the weather is good, this past Saturday I had them outside and they had a blast trying to dig and dust bathe in the frozen dirt under the spruce tree haha. I was throwing old horse bedding down on the icy path to the house and they decided to go and follow the path hahahaha
I had to herd them home.

One foot in front of the other, one day at a time. Just do your best that is all any of us can do.

56° and sunny with 24% humidity at 9:00 A.M. High today of 72°. Chicken delights will be spinach and tuna.

Still beautiful and snowy up in the mountains.

Down here we have about a month and a half left to do outdoors stuff before the heat returns. Gotta get out there while we can! Afternoon hike:
