BYC Help! WHAT HAPPENED to POSTING???

alright, let's see if I can reply here. Because if I try to reply with a quote, well I get some advertising and a list of new posts and no edit box. Weird. And I am in firefox.

Gypsi

I had difficulty w/ quoting the other day, and the multi-quote wouldn't function, but it appears to have been quickly corrected (and, I've no idea of the cause, but I suspect it was a problem w/ java on my system -- since updating, I've had no further issues ~'-)

I don't have problems with this issue, though I thought I did... I just had such dense moment I had to share. In my defence, it's still early in the morning here...
I went into my profile to check on the threads I posted in and saw one had loads of replies since mine, so I clicked it and started reading. I noticed the posts only had the red flag and the ovations thumbs-up displayed? I thought maybe the page didn't load properly, I check the bottom of the window, no errors. I thought maybe I should log out and reload the site anyway, see if that helps. O.K. read the rest of the replies first, saw it turned into a bit of a drama, still not connecting the dots (me), keep reading, got to the last post (moderator) and saw: the thread's locked...

You'd think I'd have figured that out by now! There are no reply options on locked threads!

I'm glad to hear that! I felt so stupid...

Rather than merely removing the buttons from posts w/in locked threads, which has confused many of us momentarily, it'd help if the buttons were replaced by one which indicated that no replies could be made (maybe a button labeled 'Locked' that would pop up an explanation ~'-)

I think it's O.K. the way they are. I mean the lack of "reply" buttons and options are pretty clear already. We easily confused people should pay more attention!

If clearly defined is > reasonably obvious, then additional information = better overall user experience ~'-)

It does say locked on the page of a locked thread. There is a lock icon which appears beside a locked thread title in the index.

For our campus directory, I had a few semesters that were error-free. I added blocks for individual letters to forms that the Doctors filled out, which forced them to print their names, in the own hand. Thankfully, I had the forms filed ... two complaints, from those that mispelled their own names.

So, I'm far from surprised how often folks fail to realize a thread is locked. I'd figure it out, eventually, I think -- in re a thread on top of the emergencies? I did my typically thorough research, so as to provide my typically exhausting response. Another user posted a response for my own, lettin' me know the thread was quite a few years old (the bird was most probably long since gone, but w/ old age as the cause of death ~'-)

Replacing the 'Reply' button w/ 'Locked' should be a very simple thing to do. As for my blunder? Guess I'll just have to remember to check the dates ...
