Hi,
I've just joined, I'm from the UK and we have 11 chickens about to hatch hopefully 11 more! We have 2 roos: 1 Buff Orpington and 1 Salmon Faverolle, 9 hens: 1 Buff, 2 Faverolles, 2 Blue Hybrids, 2 Rangers, and 2 Columbian Blacktails. They are all so sweet and really get on. At the moment our Buff is sitting on 11 of our own eggs, and we're thinking about putting 6 Faverolle hatching eggs or maybe another breed, suggestions welcome!

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. Chicken maths seems to have you firmly in its grasp! Sorry, i can't help with opinions on the breed selection (i live in Kenya and standard breeds are almost impossible to find).

If you would like to link up with other members in Blighty, then the following link should help

All the best

Hi :welcome from Yorkshire!

Glad you could join us here! I afraid I don't keep any of the breeds that you have on your poll list. You might like to have a look at the reed reviews, here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds

Good luck for the future and I hope you are able to pop over to the UK thread that CT left you the link for.
Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

I haven't had any of the breeds you've listed but looking at the breed reviews as suggested by Yorkshire coops is a good idea. I believe I have read that Cochins and Brahmas are calm, docile breeds.

Good luck and no matter what you end up with, getting more chickens is always a good idea!

Hello, I am also in the UK. I have a pen of Black Australorps, Buff Orps and Buff Sussex. Have just added RIR and Colombian Black Tails. It's a really lovely calm pen where everyone gets on very well. In another pen I have leghorns (flighty), Welsummers (standoffish), light Sussex (not anything particularly), a RIR and a Speckled Sussex who are lovely and really tame. The last two were hatched in an incubator and brought up in the house for a couple of weeks, so that must make a big difference. The others were hatched by broody bantams which must play a part in them being very independent. Good luck with your hatch and with choosing.
