i don't know why that is... ever since they changed into the new byc i feel like i'm back in the early 90s. whenever i try to click on something i have to walk away from my computer.. it takes so long to load it's frustrating! is there any way to speed up it up?!!

While the forum works in IE 8, our system was built for newer browsers (IE 8 is about 4 years old now). We suggest that you upgrade to the newest version of your browser, but even better: try a better browser like the new versions of FireFox or Google Chrome (both are free).

I am on chrome and it is also very slow .. (I know I just "enrolled" today but I have been reading and using this site for a long time now)

I have tried to switch to different browsers and still have a "slowness" issue

Edit .. I can post fast but opening a thread is where it slows down

Thanks for the feedback. Can you help quantify how "slow" slow is... 3 seconds, 7 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, etc? We need some examples to share with our engineers, so if peeps are having problems with performance (ESPECIALLY if you're on a new version of Chrome of Firefox), please reply with:

  1. Browser & version
  2. A few sample URLs and how long they each take to load (in seconds)
  3. The speed of your internet connection (you can test it here: http://speedtest.net/ )

I've noticed a speed issue at times, as well, though it's always been on my work computer. Here, hope these stats help:

1. The browser in use is IE 8.0, I believe.

2. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/650458/byc-is-soooo-slow (this page) 60 seconds to load.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/ 16 seconds to load from a Google search page.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this 35 seconds to load, with at least a 5 extra second delay before anything will respond to being clicked on.

3. Speed - 88 ms ping, 10.28 Mbps download, and 4.89 Mbps upload.

Alright! I never have a delay on my laptop at home, and here's the stats for that:

1. Browser is the most current version of Firefox.

2. Not going to bother putting url's here, since it never takes longer than a second or two for anything to load for me.

3. Speed - 3ms ping, 34.46 Mbps download, 27.50 Mbps upload.

Man......my work computer is shameful.

I had problems with IE. I switched to firefox and for weeks now have not had problems

Great info, thanks!!!

Yup, we really do wish the site performed better on older browsers. We also recognize that some peeps on work computers can't update their 4 year old cruddy software.

If members really aren't able to update their browsers, then I wonder if there is a way to run a browser from a thumbdrive? I just saw this article.... I wonder if it would work?
