Come say hello to @Auntiejessi3 who comes to us from central Texas and has been a member since October 2020.
1. Tell us a bit more about yourself. And is there a story behind your member name?
I grew up in the city (Phoenix, Az) and never once thought I'd ever live in the sticks. I moved to Wallis Texas with a boyfriend when I was 24 and fell in love with this state! I just kept moving further and further away from the city, until I found myself tending bar in New Ulm where I met my husband (his sister was my boss and insisted that I meet him). Turns out she had pretty good instincts because we were married 6 months later, and still going strong 10 years later. My username come from being the aunt to 2 lovely nieces and 1 handsome nephew. I've been auntie Jessi since my first niece started talking.
2. Why and when did you start keeping poultry?
We eventually moved to the sticks, September 2019, with zero restrictions on livestock, I bought a horrible prefab coop and my first 3 ladies, Maribel (light brahma) Betty (WTB), and Ruth (buff orp). I was hooked and found BYC a few months later doing never-ending research.
3. Which aspects of poultry keeping do you enjoy the most?
I love that they are all individuals with their own personality. I guess I just always thought of chickens as mindless critters just out chickening, lol. I will sit for a hot minute in the chicken yard just watching them. I think my biggest hangup is chicks, since my first broody a few years back, I seem to always have an itch to hatch chicks. Chicken math what!? My calculator is broken

4. Which members of your flock, past and present, stand out for you and why?
Ruth was such a sweet hen, she loved chillin with my little dog Mini, she was taken by a coyote midday July 3rd, 2020. A hard lesson learned about the risks of free ranging. My WTB Betty is the friendliest, most trusting lady ever. She's one of my OG's and will be 5 this July.
5. What was the funniest poultry related thing that has happened to you in your years as an owner?
A couple years back me and the hubs were relaxing in the yard while the ladies were free ranging, he went inside and came back out with the nail clippers to cut his finger nails. After the first clip the flock came running and all started jumping up around him. I'm not sure what they thought was going on, but they sure were excited. I just sat in my chair taking pictures laughing uncontrollably.
6. Beside poultry, what other pets do you keep?
2 dogs, Rocky and Mini (she's the boss, all 12lbs of her,

7. Anything you'd like to add?
We love riding our side by side out in the country, camping and doing projects together. I'm an avid bread maker, and do a lot of canning following the Amish ways. I am thankful to have found BYC and all the great folks as well! I learn something new everyday, and love sharing that knowledge with others!
