BYC Member Interview - Gritsar

I too wanted a horse but ended up with chickens! Now I am trying to convince my husband we need MORE chickens. ( I haven't yet given up on the horse, but it is not practical right now.)
Thank you for sharing a piece of yourself and passing on a smile!

Gritty, it's a truly dumb chicken that turns violent on you. The bugger does not know how good he has it.
My dear friend Sour, I will take that as a compliment.

Hey, Kat!!! We haven't talked in a long time, but I always think of you fondly. Thanks for the interview. Every time I see your name, I think, "It's all about the Brahmas, baby!" LOL!

ETA: Sorry to hear about your dad. Mine is 93 himself and crotchety as heck, but I'll be dealing with that soon myself.

Hi Speckled!

Shall we change your mind a bit? Nowadays it's all about the brahmas (including my original girls, still around), the bantam cochins and breda fowl. I get onto horsefeatherz all the time for not talking me into bantam cochins sooner.

Thanks for the condolences. Miss him like crazy.

Oh, don't have to convince me about the bantam Cochins. I lost my lavender hen, Shadow, 2 years ago and we miss her like crazy, and now, I have an adorable black banty Cochin rooster named Xander. He inherited Suede's hens, if you can believe it! He thinks he's DA MAN now, LOL. Good to talk to you again, lady!

I'm have two 4 week old banty cochins (one cockerel and I believe one pullet) in the brooder with nine 4 week old breda fowl right now. The little cochin cockerel, named Sue (don't ask

), has been strutting around like he DA MAN too. Given the size difference between the cochins and the breda I tried to tell him he was making a mistake. Yesterday one of the breda cockerels educated him. They will be separated this week.

Oh, in an attempt to pacify Widget's broodiness I got her a couple of day old cochins too; one turned out to be a frizzle. "Philip" laid her first egg this morning. New tactic to obtain all females....give them masculine names.

Quote: Ha, I'll have to remember that! Of course, in the hens-with-masculine-names department, I've had a Riley and a Georgie already. And I have one little Delaware-looking chick who is four weeks old I'm calling Sammie Jo, so maybe that will work since I'm hoping for a pullet so badly on this one! I'll let you know if it works!

Gritstar,

Thanks for sharing more about yourself. I am loving the member interviews. As someone who is fairly new to chickens (2years), I am very blessed to have tendered people around to gain the knowledge I need for a successful flock.
