BYC members in Massachusetts?

One of mine tried to drink from a small (like teeny) puddle in the run from a leaky tarp though i tried scaring her away from the outside. She just kept coming back and the run is all muddy and filled with shavings and poop and just gross so I really hope she doesn't get sick. Birds are gross ugh

Same, I kept saying "Get your face outta that!"

Silly chickens!

Hi everyone!
Another crazy chicken (and duck) lady in Massachusetts here. I've been lurking the forums for a while so figured it was high time to join the party! Here's some of my ladies and gents enjoying this beautiful spring day :)

Anyone out there have to apply for a permit before getting started? Would love to hear some stories!

My sister did...she lives in Needham. They do not allow backyard chickens. She had to go in front of the town board...do a lot of paperwork, pay a couple hundred dollars, show her coop plans, and be open to random inspections by the ACO or inspector. She also had neighbors try and petition to get her stopped after she got approval (nosey old folks that are so uptight in that area). And the town made a stink about where her coop was going to be because she abuts conservation land. She had 5 bantams shipped and was approved for 4....so when the inspection was happening one hen would be hidden her basement...haha. She since has lost 2 to hawks...so she is down to 3. It was a lot of leg work for her, but she has 2 kids now so the birds are taking a back seat.....
