Have you built your coop? We have a lot of predators around here so free ranging is not a good option. I know a lot of folks around Ashby and just over the NH border have had a lot of problems with foxes. There's also a Bobcat that makes the rounds occasionally.

We are building it today if the sun would just come out we also have a covered run for them for during the day attached to our shed.

Build it sturdy and use 1/2 inch 19 gauge (at the least) hardware cloth. I cringe when I see people using chicken wire. Chicken wire is meant to keep chickens in, not for predators.

Hi! New chicken mama here, too. Chicks are due Tuesday! Taking advantage of my professional carpenter spouse's skills on our coop. Building the buried anti-predator foundation box today while the sun is out! Tomorrow, we start prepping the brooder
