BYC Mom

Welcome to BYC! I just started at the end of April, bought 5 EE chick, 3 were cockerels (also had to rehome 💔 ) Purchased 4 more pullet chicks 5 weeks later. Now have 2 EEs, 2 BOs, 2 SLWs. I also garden....With a few tweaks, we have the same story. :D My long-lost sibling. :lau This forum has been sooooo helpful. I have learned a lot of information, and it has really helped on my journey as a newbie. I hope you have the same experience. So glad you are here and your girls a adorable.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Raising chickens is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. It keeps me busy while my 4 yr old son is at school. Once he gets home we go watch them play and give them treats. I'm officially retired, but I occasionally acquire contracts for work. It is an ideal situation for us because it gives me time spend with my family and my girls. I can see that everyone is just as proud of their flock as I am. See you around!

I am a chicken mom that started my flock in May. I initially had 3 hens and 2 roosters. I live in a neighborhood in Montgomery AL. The roosters had to be rehomed. I currently have 5 hens. My flock consists of a Buff Orpington (Megan), a Barred Rock (Missy), a Blue Red Laced Wyandotte (Da Brat), and 2 Easter Eggers (Lyte and Foxy). I love having a backyard flock so that my son can learn sustainability and maintain simple knowledge of where his food comes from since our eggs no longer come from the grocery store.
I enjoy growing vegetables on my patio and spending time with my family. I learned about the BYC community through Facebook. I'd like to learn as much as I can about chickens so I decided to join.
Good morning! Your flock sounds a lot like mine! A buff orpington (Buffy), a barred rock (Moira), and two wyandotte (Cinnamon and Spike). They are about 16 weeks old now. One of the wyandotte turn out to be a male (Spike--the name came before we knew he was a rooster!), but I'm going to just wait and see how he behaves. Other neighbors have roosters, so the noise isn't a problem. So far, so good!
