WELCOME TO BYC

I wish we could have roosters, but at this time lucky for them we aren't planning on hatching at this time. Just enjoy having the ladies and the great product they deliver for us. Sounds like quite the wonderful flock of humans here and are excited to learn about and raise chickens! Thanks for all the great info and warm welcomes! One question on my mind though, have decided to build our own coop with reclaimed (or free wood on CL), anything I need to know to avoid, ie, paints, types of wood, hardware they might ingest and soforth?

I have built coops with all kinds of different woods and paints and never had a problem with any of them. I would however suggest that you avoid pressure treated wood because of the chemicals used to treat it. Unless you have serious termites problems, you don't need it anyway. Pressure treated wood, contrary to popular myth is no more rot resistant against moisture than non-treated wood.
