I got my first chickens at the age of 62 because Grampa had had chickens. I started with a flock of Rhode Island Reds. I currently have some Aracunas, black barred rock, red sex link, and a red and white chicken. I currently have 14 chickens having lost a few a long the way. One to a coyote, and a couple in the past to I don't know what.

I have been on the website for a few years but had never actually signed up for an account. My husband was surfing and found the website. He thought I was crazy when I wanted to get chickens but now he thinks they are the greatest! Ours are layers and they are pretty much pets too.

My other hobby is horseback riding--used to do trail riding and endurance. Now I am learning dressage. We have a couple of Arabians--mine was a racing Arabian and I have had him for about 15 years. I also am learning watercolors. I also like to travel and have been to Europe and back and to Mexico a couple of times in the last 2 years. I am a retired electrical engineer and love living out in the county and having chickens and horses. It keeps me active.

Welcome to BYC! So glad you could join!

Sounds like you're having an awesome retirement! I've barely been outside of my home state, let alone to another country.

I love Arabian horses, I bet yours are very beautiful.

14 is a very good number of chickens to have, not too many and not too few. However, when you get a case of "chicken math" then you may just find yourself wanting more.

Best of luck with your flock!

Great to have you join us here at BYC - I find keeping chickens very rewarding and good fun. Chicken tv is fun, for sure!

All the best

Thank you very much! All those who welcomed me thank you. I have been having some computer issues so haven't been on much yesterday. Lost my internet. Thanks for the educational tips too!!
