I write anecdotal stories about life on the mountain.... in the high desert... California near the Mexican border. Chickens are involved but so are predators both two legged four legged and winged...

These are true stories... from my experiences.

There is a local paper that I have been wanting to do a column for but have been afraid to give it a try. this would be experience for me.

Forum Etiquette and its Importance

Forum etiquette is really important especially on BYC. So you may ask what is forum etiquette. Well forum etiquette is simple and easy. In this article I will go into detail on what to and what not to do. This article will be specific to BYC.

Knowing and understanding all of the rules on BYC is important. If you know all the rules you won't run into problems as much. Listed below are the rules I will break them down.

Our Community Forum / Website is a place for people to learn, ask questions, share their experiences, and make new friends. As with any online service, we need to make sure that you understand our rules and policies before you sign up for our service.

When you first join BYC you should have read through the rules and terms and understood them.

The providers ("we", "us", "our") of the service provided by this web site ("Service") are not responsible for any user-generated content and accounts. Content submitted express the views of their author only.

The website is not responsible for does it have power over what others say. Members post their personal opinion.

You are granting us with a non-exclusive, permanent, irrevocable, unlimited license to use, publish, or re-publish your Content (including and not limited to posts, images, comments, articles, etc.) in connection with the Service. You retain copyright over the Content.

By posting your work on BYC, BYC can use your work but it is still your work.

All Content you submit or upload may be sent to third-party verification services (including, but not limited to, spam prevention services). Do not submit any Content that you consider to be private or confidential.

Never put personal information out for everyone to see.

We may remove or modify any Content submitted at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Requests for Content to be removed or modified will be undertaken only at our discretion. We may terminate your access to all or any part of the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice.

BYC has the right to delete or change anything you post without your permission.

This Service is only available to users who are at least 13 years old. If you are younger than this, please do not register for this Service. If you register for this Service, you represent that you are this age or older.

Only join BYC if you are old enough.

Do's

  • Be friendly and courteous to all members at all times.

  • Respect the community Team (moderators and administrators). They dedicate LOTS of volunteer time keeping the community running smoothly.

  • Be nice to newcomers and help them feel welcome.

  • Respect that people may have a different political, religious, philosophical and cultural background than you.

  • Be very descriptive in the subjects of your new topics and try to stay on topic as you post. Example: do not say "HELP ME!", but instead say "I'm having a problem with xxx yyy and could use some help"

  • Have fun and learn!
Don'ts

This is a list of things you should not do on our site. Our Team will lock or remove topics if there are posts that are contrary to the good of the community. Our Team has many years of combined experience with this community and these rules are based on this experience.

Remember this is a family friendly community, so no swearing, foul language, or profanity.

  1. Definitely no inappropriate topics, especially "Adult"or innuendo.

  2. No Flaming (verbally attacking people or groups of people - e.g. a profession, an organization, a company.)

  3. No Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant). Trolling is sometimes done involuntarily, so please be considerate when posting. NOTE: Do not reply to or quote people who troll or flame.

  4. No Teasing, mocking, ridiculing, or otherwise making fun at other member's expense.

  5. No Fighting or excessive arguing. Taking a personal conflict to the forum is unacceptable. "I'm right, you're wrong".

  6. Do not advertise your products or services outside of the appropriate Buy Sell Trade (BST) areas of the forum.

  7. No Bumping or Cross-posting topics. Bumping is posting to move a thread up on the forum list, and cross-posting is posting the same thread in several forums.

  8. Do not post overly personal information like your phone number, address, age, or any other overly personal info.

  9. Do not promote other websites that are "similar" to our site, especially similar forums. Sometimes it may be appropriate to link to another site that has specific information relative to a question, but moderators have to right to remove links and posts at their discretion.

  10. Do not solicit donations or charitable requests for yourself or other people or organizations.

  11. We strongly discourage religious, political, and other strongly divisive topics, and reserve the right to delete them at our discretion.
Moderation

Our Team spend a TON of time and energy to keep the forum running smoothly. How our team moderate is never a topic for open discussion on the forum. If you have any questions, feedback, or issues regarding moderation, it should never be posted publicly, but should be addressed to the specific moderator or the site administrator via private message/conversation or our contact us form.

If a topic is closed or removed do not, under any circumstances, re-post the same topic or material. If you have any questions as to why a thread was closed or removed please contact a team member.

These terms may be changed at any time without notice.

If you do not agree with these terms, please do not register or use the Service. Use of the Service constitutes acceptance of these terms. If you wish to close your account, please contact us.

So know that we know and understand the rules we need to always be kind to others and stay civil. Never start an argument that no one is going to win. Nobody wants to listen to fighting. I don't mean that you have to agree with them, you just have to see where they are coming from and respectfully understand. You should never post a comment that is going to hurt someone else and is not useful.

One thing that really is not helpful is when someone asks for help (for example their chicken ate something bad for them or got hurt) and they know it was their fault and people judge them and repeatedly tell them how wrong what they did was. They know the messed up but they can't change the past only the future.

A helpful way to be productive for you and everyone else is before you post something asking for help do a quick search to see if you can find the answer, if it already has been asked.

Remember that anyone can give you an answer to a question and if you do not agree just simply ignore or kindly point out why it is not a good idea to do that. If an OP or any members asks you to either be respectful or to simply stop posting on a thread you should.

On behalf of everyone on BYC I ask that you take these words into consideration and remember if you do not want anyone to do these things to you do not do it to them.

I realized i forgot to add that it may be easier if you make a group pm with all 3 editors so if one is busy the others can help. sorry i forgot to add this.

Please don't take that as a criticism.

I remember my journalism teacher told us to stop using so many "I's" so I figured putting it at the end of the sentence was not so obvious.:idunno

Thank you for this... always good to reiterate periodically... and also Refer to copywrite symbols and ettiquite.

Each person who writes an article or story has implied copywrite... Due to the time stamp that is unseen in the soft ware... Just like photos you dont have a right to copy and use it for your own purpose.

In my case I rarely give permission. I am writing eventually to aim at some income...
