Is it an OS specific issue?

I don't know. I'm apparently not having this issue.

Mine that are being rotated were taken on my iPhone.

Both of my devices are Samsung and I'm using Google Chrome and no issues.

Try a different browser and see if it does it again. If you can, try posting the same image from a different device.

I don't have /use a different browser. Chrome sucks and ghostery was discontinued

taking pics in landscape mode seems to work fine.

Wait. Set your devices to take 16:9 photos. If it happens, it might be that.
