I've seen some pics of her single coated Shetland (most are dual coated) and have sprung to buy 2 lb of grey from two different ewes. I'll post pics when they arrive.

Happy Wool Dance!!

Here are a couple pics of my latest yarns.

Hi! I'm interested in learning to spin. I will be getting my baby English Angora bun around Thanksgiving. I'm hope to someday spin the wool and make simple stuff like a scarf. I have sewn my own clothes on and off for 23+ years, so I understand learning curves and practice, practice and more practice.

So far I have just bought a top whorl drop spindle kit with some wool roving and instructions from Etsy. I just got the DVD from ebay "Intro to Spinning on a Drop Spindle" by Rene Gillespie. I have never knitted anything so I got a long plastic knitting loom to start that and yarn from Wal Mart. Is there anything else or any advice from you experienced spinners you want to add?

reeree, I am DEFINITELY not experienced, but I am on a similar journey to yours & wanted to say "HI".

I started spinning on a top whorl spindle & by watching videos on YouTube. That was in August.
I like Abby Francoeur (not sure last name is 100%), her videos are VERY thorough.

I got my baby English Angora just before Halloween. He is hopping at my feet right now.
He lives outside but has a section of the house that is "his", and it absolutely being the biggest goof ball ever right now.

I found a place to take 2 lessons locally & go to my first one the week after Thanksgiving.
I sewed by hand from 6 years old, and started sewing on a machine at 8.
I have crafted all my life, and knit now. (As well as other crafts and hobbies. Knitting has quickly become my favorite, though.)
I used to crochet, but knitting is easier for me, personally, and I prefer the results.

Those looms look fun. Look forward to seeing what you make with it, and hearing about your adventures in a parallel universe.
MullersLane has great knitting and spinning, advice. I know where I plan to run when in doubt from now on.

Abby Franquemont is also the author of Respect the Spindle published by Interweave Press. She is a fabulous instructor & a sweetheart too.

Pictures, yes! We just switched to high speed internet, (as well as our phone, email, and computer), need to figure out how to post pictures now. So many new things to learn in one week. Spinning is certainly helping counter the techno overload.

When it rains it pours in the NW. Last Saturday I was tickled to rent a Louet S10 spinning wheel. Someone from the spinning class called me 2 days ago to tell me about a Louet S10 on Craigslist at a very good price. I bought it this morning!

Let it rain, let it pour, I am happily learning to spin yarn!
