Very cool idea for a contest! Our chickens usually get our leftover pumpkins. This summer our son decided to make a squash piñata. Corkscrew into a butternut squash and hung from a tree branch.

It lasted as a few days as entertainment, but later I realized the mistake. My chickens learned to love butternut squash and now peck through the garden fence. Almost every winter squash this year has nibbles.

It's supposed to be in the 70s here next week, so I might get some pumpkins then! This week it's in the high 80s and the idea of carving pumpkins in this weather makes me go

I was on my way to get feed and stopped by the pumpkin patch to see if they had any rotten ones. Had to take all of them or none.
