BYC's 2026 Valentine's Day Hatch-Along

Pics
That does look like twins in the Double Yolker. 🧐 I've heard of twins before, but I think the ones I read about didn't make it through hatch. Or maybe one made it. I don't remember. I guess it's hard for them to position themselves? Have you incubated one before? Any thoughts on how to help them through hatching? It would be so cool if the both made it (if there are indeed two)!
That will be my first double yolker. I'm prepared to assist if needed but I think the hardest part will be figuring out where/when to pip the egg, if I need to, without injuring either chick.

Yeah, I reckon one of them will probably turn correctly and internally pip, but the other will be malpositioned. It'll be interesting if it gets to that.:pop

Regarding my own ducks; 2 have internally pipped and are moved to the hatcher. I've stopped turning the other ones. Several look like they're gonna int pip quite soon.

What's more, I realized I have a placement issue with the older ducklings. I was counting on having them in the same room I had chicks in last year, but that didn't work out. And the outside "chick room" isn't properly insulated, and of course it had to get cold again! I can heat it well enough in a few degrees below freezing, but not 0F.

Fast-forward a few days and we're now, once again, renovating our house :lau I'll get an inside chick room, and we'll change the horrid floor and knock down some walls for good measure. I'm glad me and hubby are both impulsive people.

Calendar of Events:

Day 7
Candled the olive colored eggs from my neighbor and the replacement CCLs from the first seller.

The olive colored eggs are doing great; 11/12 are developing, 1 looks questionable. The first set of 8 CCLs don't look promising, but I put them back in the incubator anway.

I was so disappointed by the first set of 8 CCLs I almost forgot to candle the second set of 8

2 are developing, 4 are questionable, 1 was clear and 1 quit, they all went back in and I'll candle them again on Day 10; March 3rd

Day 14

CPs, CCLs (second batch different seller), White Bantam eggs and Double yolker . . I'll be candling these again on Day 17, March 2nd

Day 19

Large eggs from my flock; no activity, but it's still early. Day 21 is Mar 1st
