Here in South Africa we have something called Biltong.
It is just awesome, especially if you can find some yellow fat biltong.
Here are some interesting facts:
Biltong and beef jerky are both dried meats, but they differ in how they're made, their texture, and their flavor:
- Drying process: Biltong is air-dried slowly at a low temperature, while jerky is dehydrated quickly at a high temperature.
- Seasoning: Biltong is marinated in vinegar and spices, while jerky is marinated in sauces and spices.
- Texture: Biltong is softer and juicier than jerky, which is drier and chewier.
- Flavor: Biltong has a more natural flavor than jerky.
- Meat cuts: Jerky is made from lean cuts of beef, while biltong can be made from lean or fatty cuts.
- Origin: Biltong originated in South Africa, while jerky originated in North America.
- Cost: Biltong can be more expensive than jerky because it takes longer to dry.
