Once there was a guy named Gordon who was an operator who drove a dump truck....

... one day on his way to pick up a load of rock, he met a prostitute and he called her Rocksand and he fell in love with her and wrote her name on the back of the truck... he wanted her to settle down and leave the streets, so he told her that she didn't have to turn on the "red light" any more... as in "red light district"...

... she told him he wasn't rock and roll enough, and went back to the streets, and then Gordon started a band called the Police and called himself Sting and became a huge star...and he wrote a song about her

... or at least that's the way I heard it

(ok, so none of that is true, other than Sting's real name is Gordon, but here's the lyrics to the song that the meme is having fun with... see if it helps explain it)

I think I'd give the nod to Eddie Murphy's rendition. Years ago one of our bus drivers, Bridget used to sing that song over and over. It sounded pitiful. Now Eddie sounds like he really feels it. . Besides I haven't seen Eddie in a long long time.
