I believe the purpose of face masks was to help stop the virus from spreading to other people, not to save yourself from it(well at least not directly).
I might be wrong though, that's just what I read somewhere.
Id be really interested to see some statistics as to wearing/not wearing a mask and wether it actually made any difference at all to the rate of spread.

I'm not anti mask, I still wear one often even though the rules have been lifted.
