this heat needs to stop!!!!
well for no reason i had my first chicken death it just died and i dont know why

We are lucky to have lots of shade and rarely lose birds even in the high heat (old fat hens don't handle the heat as well). Without the trees for shade, we'd be in a mess.
We are still getting oodles of eggs --- except from the girls that have decided it's time to go broody again. Lots of my birds are molting (I thought they went in early molt because of the early heat), some almost feather-less girls are still laying daily.
We are headed toward shorter and cooler days.

Yeah, 3 out of 5 are laying now. Still waiting on the BR and NH to earn their keep.

My birds picked back up laying...for the most part. When I say picked back up; I mean I'm getting 8 eggs/day instead of 3-4 eggs/day. Translates to 50% productivity instead of 18%.

Last night, it was dark already, DH went into the coop with a flash light to close up and there coiled on the roost next to our antwerp belgium bantam was a rat snake!!! He went to grab the snake, but it escaped and hid behind the brooder, where our new chicks are.

DH managed to grab it's tail and toss it out of the coop! I wonder if that is how we lost our MF chick!

Snakes are no fun...at least not in the coop/run of our chickens. At least you got it out...for now anyway!

That could very well be the reason why your MF went missing...
