Thanks for letting me know about the meet at Tractor supply. I am gonna try my best to make it there. My daughter is so upset over our loss of our birds. Any suggestions on what the best breed is for egg laying, gentleness, and relatively easy keepers?

Ok need some advice. My kids just got home from school and found one last remaining chicken from our flock ALIVE! The managed to catch her and put her back in the coop. Is she going to be fine by herself? I know all the rest our gone, cause we found all their bodies but this one. I am happy that I at least have her, but worried that I am going to lose her to being lonely. Need advice desperately!

That's one lucky chicken. It's not ideal to keep a single chicken, but she will be ok by herself.
Have you checked her for wounds?
Goodluck!

I haven't been home yet. Right now, my oldest has her in a dog crate in his room. He said she looks fine and he doesn't see and wounds on her. I can't wait to get off work and check her myself. I am sure she is shook up and probably scared our of her little chicken mind. I think her name is now going to be Lucky. I am hoping I will be able to find her some friends at the tractor supply meet on the 5th. I feel so bad for her!

Yes they are! My oldest says that his sister (the absolute animal lover) won't leave her alone. She has called me twice panicing about her being the only chicken. I have no idea how she survived since Sunday and not gotten killed by a dog, coyote, fox, coon or other critter. I feel guilty that the rest got killed cause we normally put them in the coop if we leave to go somewhere, because we have had so many stray dogs and cats dropped off on our road, but I had totally forgotten I had let them out. Needless to say, I came home to a slaughter factory! At least I have one brave little hen left, just worried about her chicken sanity. Can't wait to get her some friends.

Well, I got home and my lucky chicken seems fine. Can't wait for the meet to find her some friends. She was one of only two buff orpington that I had got. I am glad I have her. Husband has given me permission to keep her inside for a few days to make sure she is healthy before I move her back to the coop. He said we have to make sure that we get a rooster to breed her with cause obviously she had more smarts then the rest of the flock and got out of dodge when the massacre happened. I feel like it is all my fault cause I had all our dogs inside when we left, but forgot that I had let the chickens out.

I have a question. For the swap I would like to bring some RIR eggs. But only if anyone is interested in buying some. If anyone is interested just let me know. Thanks.
