My chicks are 6.5 weeks old. Should I be cutting up my cabbage and lettuce into small pieces for treats or are they ok with bigger pieces. I am putting some into a suet feeder but want them to be able to pull it out...

Another question. My husband wants the run to be seeded with grass. It's been 'trying' to grow for the last 5-6 weeks and it's not coming in very well. I WANT the chickens to go outside...they haven't been there yet

. i tell him that within a week b/c of the amount of chicks we have the grass will be turned to nothing. How can I convince him it's not worth getting the grass to come in. I can't let them out either b/c we don't have a top on the run, and they will fly out within minutes. He's not worried about getting the chicks out, but they are getting big and it's harder to get in the coop without one flying/running out into the yard and into the mouth of the dog

PLEASE HELP ME !!! and ideas???

Thanks

I saw and adapted an idea on one of the chicken sites. What the person did was made 3 runs for his birds. Then he rotated the birds in a new run every week or so. This let the 1st run heal for 2 weeks. More work, but free chicken food.

This has nothing to do with the grass, but you can build a "mantrap" over the entrance to the coop... just a small area one person big, with an extra door that you can close behind you so the chickens don't escape into the yard. It's pretty cheap to add, since you don't have to predator-proof it and can use cheap materials.
Hope you work out the grass argument.

Well my chickens are finally outsidee!!! For the most part they love it, it's really hot in there when there is no shade (we are working on that). The grass problem? Well, like I thought the grass will be gone in a short while. I will try to put up some pics...
