A cabbage ball does multi tasks. It keeps chickens preoccupied with activity therefore keep their mind from pecking others from boredom.

How did you tie it up?

I use the "cabbage on a rope", they love it! I fastened a small piece of rope to a rafter and tied an eyebolt to the end. I just screw the eyebolt into the stem of the cabbage. When not being used, I just loop the eyebolt up on a hook, out of reach.
And if you give them purple cabbage, they will poop blue.

Another way to hang a cabbage is by drilling through the core and running a string through the hole. Then hang it from a perch or any place that it can swing freely. I put out a new cabbage every two weeks or so in the chicken pen to give them something fun to do before and after being let outdoors for the day. Cabbages get pecked right down to just a few shredded leaves.
