i have read about hanging cabbage for them to not get them bored...how do i do this? what do i need to put the cabbage in?

The picture I saw had an eye screw screwed into the core and hung from above. I imagine you'd want to use a stainless steel screw that wouldn't rust.

I just looped some heavy cord around the cabbage and hung it. I would not worry about the screw eye rusting. The cabbage won't last that long. Once I drove a 16 penny nail into the core to hang it.

Nowadays, I just toss the cabbage into the run. They eat it without it having to be suspended above. It is not as entertaining to watch. It is a bit of fun to watch them crawling into a pumpkin to get the last little bit.

I drill a 1/2" hole throught the center of the cabbage and run a 7" bolt through and secure with a washer and nut. Then I hang that with some wire that goes through the bolt in a hole I drilled. I will get a pick tomorrow if I remember to help visualize it. Of course, I have the tools to do it in this fashoin so that's what I use. The other ideas sound like they work just fine too.

So here are a few pics of how I hang my cabbage. Works great and they love it. Six of them will destroy a large head in two days no problem. Hope this helps.

thanks a million...we have 14 chickies so i guess they will mutilate it in one day flat...lol
