I picked up a couple used sportsman incubators yesterday, wiped it out with some vinegar and water, plugged it in and it smelled like a mouse nest. So I peek thru the upper vent holes and no nest, but everything in there is covered with a white dust. About a quarter to half inch worth. Right now I'm deciding whether to remove a panel or modify / make a hinged panel so I can keep it clean and be able to change a fan or Turner motor in a hurry.
Anyone else ever look thru the vents? Or have any ideas for making these things more serviceable?

powder sounds to me like it was an old mouse nest that's long abandoned

that's why its powedery now from all that time its been sitting there

must have been plastic paper and wood shavings before and dried and broke down to powder

Got the back off, the mouse nest is made from yellow fiberglass insulation. Feather dust from hatching? Maybe? It has accumulated while it was running. Looks like dust from paper bedding used for cows, I wonder if she was lining the hatching trays with paper bedding?

I would give it a good dismantle and clean

check all wire for gnawing

and just give it a general MOT

I don't own a cabinet but want to but I have brinsea incubators and I can dismantle then wash each part and put them back together with my eyes closed

its real simple and well worth doing for hygiene and good hatch rate
